Thankful for You

Dear City Colleagues,

This morning, during our weekly department head meeting, I was reminded what remarkable people work in Syracuse city government.  We received updates on accomplishments, areas of need and priority projects. Over and over again, we heard reports about city workers who care about each other and the people they serve.

We were told about employees watching out for the rights of tenants and landlords. We learned of workers taking special assignments to assist with COVID-19 testing. Another colleague pointed out that the holidays, especially this year, will be trying for some and reminded us of the resources available to city employees.

As I listened, I thought about how thankful I am to work with all you, because I know these reports reflect only some of good work being done across city government. So heading in to Thanksgiving, I want you to know how truly appreciative I am of each and every one of you. I hope you get some rest this long holiday weekend.

While you do, make time to watch the “Home for the Holidays” virtual tree lighting special. I got a sneak preview this morning, and it is a high quality program that shows off our city’s rich talent and diversity.  It premieres at 6 p.m. Friday on our Facebook page and on our special website: syracusetreelighting.com. It will also be available online after. You won’t want to miss it.

Finally, please be safe and careful in all that you do this holiday weekend. We can and will get through this challenge.  Have a Happy Thanksgiving.
