COVID-19 Message from Quarentine

Published on November 06, 2020

Dear City Colleagues,

I’m back in quarantine today after coming in contact with a fellow city employee who tested positive for COVID-19. Fortunately, the colleague is not showing symptoms.  I feel fine, too, and I’m taking the proper precautions at all times.   The situation is another indicator, though, of the resurgence of COVID-19 and how close it can be to any of us.

As of today, there are 267 active cases of COVID-19 in the City of Syracuse.  Only two weeks ago, the number was about half that. When positive cases go up an increase in hospitalizations follows and that can put a dangerous strain on our health care system.

So I want to ask you all, as your Mayor, your co-worker and your fellow city resident to take every precaution possible to limit the risk of contracting and spreading COVID-19. When you are away from home, put six feet of distance between yourself and people who don’t live in your household. Wash your hands often with soap and water. Everyone should wear a mask in public settings and when around people who don’t live in your household, especially when other social distancing measures aren’t possible. Monitor your health, be alert for symptoms and stay home if you are sick.

This advice is worth repeating because we know it works. And I want all of you and your families to stay healthy and well.
Have a safe and good weekend.

Thank you.
